Westerlo seeks applicants and sponsors for banners

To the Editor:
The Westerlo Hometown Heroes committee is accepting applications to honor veterans on banners displayed throughout town for the 2024 season. Banner honorees must be or have been a resident of Westerlo.

Proof of residency and service are required. If anyone needs help securing this information they are encouraged to reach out to the committee for assistance.

The Hometown Heroes Committee will also be honoring first responders on their very own banner. First responders are our community’s local heroes, often the first ones on the front lines, saving lives and keeping our community safe.

Current or former residents of Westerlo who were or are members of any fire company, law-enforcement agency, emergency medical service, or 9-1-1 dispatch are eligible for a banner. These honorees must also provide verification (form provided) that they were or are a member in good standing.

Sponsors are an especially important part of our program. Without them, we would not be able to honor banner recipients who are unable to pay for a banner on their own. Each banner that is sponsored in full will include the name of the sponsor on the banner. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated.

The banners will be placed throughout the town of Westerlo. Every request for a banner will be honored as sponsorships are made available.

The banners will be on display from approximately May through the beginning of November. At the conclusion of the season, the banners will be removed and presented to the honoree or family or sponsor at a closing ceremony.

The cost for each banner is $225. All forms, photos, and payment must be submitted by April 1 — no exceptions. Forms are available at the Westerlo Town Hall, the town of Westerlo website, on the Westerlo Hometown Heroes Facebook page, or by email.

Any questions may be directed to or by calling Amie Burnside at 518-396-0350 or me, Lisa DeGroff, at 518-396-0350.

Westerlo is proud to honor its heroes and is looking forward to a spectacular seventh season.
