Walk the trails, enjoy the serene beauty

Hardy hikers — from left, Laurie Swift, Tess Garner, Marilyn Hellwig, and Karol Harlow — take a moment for a picture at Switzkill Farm in Berne.

To the Editor:

A group of five hearty women, each 65 or older, spent the last two Monday mornings hiking the trails of Switzkill Farm — trails that would woo young and old to the shale pit, over the sturdy bridge leading to the Cole Hill State Forest, by the beaver ponds where we observed an otter slide, along the snowy trail to the waterfalls.

We appreciated that Game Farm Road was plowed all the way to the pheasant barns so we had a place to park. The road to the main lodge has deteriorated badly and is not safe to drive anymore without some roadwork.

I would encourage all Berne and Knox residents, and others, to go, to walk the trails (https://berneny.org/wp-content/uploads/Map.pdf) and to enjoy the serene beauty and beautiful vistas.  It is a treasure.
