Guilderland High School

In 2023, high school athletes gave us some jaw-dropping moments from winning their first sectional crown to bringing home a national championship — even after a decade of waiting to get back to the top.

On Saturday, Dec. 23, the Storm hockey team — composed of Guilderland, Voorheesville, Scotia-Glenville, Schalmont, and Mohonasen players — participated in the Applebee’s Winter Classic. The Storm battled all game long but couldn’t hold the lead and fell 9 to 7.

Last Thursday, Dec. 21, the Guilderland gymnastics team traveled to Bethlehem High School to take on the Eagles. The Dutch showed their grit and grace but fell 152.100 to 144.725.

On Friday, Dec. 15, the Guilderland girls’ wrestling team took part in the first-ever all female wrestling tournament at Niskayuna High School. Guilderland finished tenth with 39 points.

On Friday, Dec. 8, the Guilderland boys’ basketball team hit their home court against the Shaker Blue Bison. It was a tough shooting night for the Dutch as they fell 68-38.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the Guilderland-Voorheesville swim team took on Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. The team won 94 to 76 and Isak Brkanovic qualified for states in the 50-yard freestyle.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, the Guilderland indoor track team competed in the Ithaca College High School Invitational being held at Ithaca College. The girls won with 134 points, 76 more than second place, while the boys finished in sixth with 34 points.

On Friday, Dec. 1, the Guilderland and Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Middleburgh wrestling teams competed in the Columbia Duals in a two day event at Columbia High School.

On Tuesday, Nov. 28, both Guilderland and Voorheesville bowling teams opened up their season at home. The Dutch faced off against Colonie and the Birds took on LaSalle. Guilderland won 23-9 (3437-3338 total pins) and Voorheesville won 26-6 (3178-2047 total pins).

On Sunday, Nov. 12, the Guilderland boys’ soccer team competed in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA Championship at Middletown High School. The Dutch battled till the final whistle but fell, 4 to 2.
