Running for a cause in the Fox Creek 5K

Runners from across the region came to Berne on Aug 6 to participate in the Fox Creek 5K in the first leg of the Hilltown Triple Crown.

Starting off with a bang: New York State Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara shoots for the start of the Fox Creek 5K as kids in the back of Berne Supervisor Kevin Crosier cover their ears during last Saturday’s race, the first leg of the Hilltown Triple Crown. Proceeds from the Berne race benefit Life Enhancement through Activities and Programs, known as LEAP, to help those with disabilities ride horses for therapy.

Easy victory: Finishing first overall in the Fox Creek 5K last Saturday in Berne, Noah Valvo, 17, from Delanson made it look easy as he beat his closest competitor by 32 seconds with a time of 18:48. There were 113 runners in Saturday’s race and the youngest was 4 years old.

Determination shows in the face of Tess Fitzmaurice, 13, from Greenville, as her ponytail flies behind her. She was the first female to cross the finish line Saturday in the Fox Creek 5K with a time of 21:05.

Running in his honor: Beth Ray of Guilderland carries the American flag during the Fox Creek 5K Saturday in honor of Captain Timothy Moshier, a Delmar resident, who was killed in Iraq in 2006. Ray finished 22nd with a time of 24:32.
