The top line in the $1.6 million preliminary budget proposed by Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis calls for a 16-percent cut in town spending compared to the 2016  budget.

The roads they travelled now honor five Hilltown men who died in the Vietnam War.

The board also recently heard town residents who live near the Helderberg Rod and Gun Club register several complaints about the club and its noise.

On Monday, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo school board voted to approve the appointment of Mark  Pitterson as the secondary school principal; Annette Landry as principal of the elementary school, and Tom Galvin as long-term substitute dean of students and athletic director.

Joseph Boone, 49,  was appointed to occupy the seat of  Theodore Lounsbury who resigned from the board early this year.

The town's hopes for an updated town hall hang on voter approval Nov. 8.

The councilman who formed Unify Knox says he will sit out the November election.

The tax rate will decrease from $4.65 percent per $1,000 of assessed valuation to $4.50,  making the effective tax rate 3 percent lower than it was in 2016.

Ken Saddlemire is not taking the reversal lying down. He intends to stay in the race as a write-in candidate.

The former Albany County Public Defender is moving on to direct a regional state office whose mission is  to strengthen legal protection for  non-citizen defendants.
