Joanne Marie Lauster

Joanne Marie (née Salisbury) Lauster, who was passionate about her family’s genealogy, died on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, in Chesapeake, Virginia. She was 78.

She was born in Albany on Oct. 25, 1947 — the same date as her passing.

“While Joanne spent some of her earlier years working and traveling in support of her husband’s 32-year naval career, her true passion and focus was the genealogy of her family,” her family wrote in a tribute. “As her skills as a genealogist progressed, she not only researched her own family history but also supported several other genealogical societies in upstate New York, near her parental home, helping others discover loved ones and connections.

“In addition, she loved animals, particularly her cats, taking in strays and always having room for just one more. Joanne was known for crocheting baby blankets for family and friends, enjoyed making folk art, restoring antique furniture, and collecting dolls of all types.

“She will be loved and remembered fondly for the impact she had on so many lives.”
