See the world through a stereopticon

“Magic lantern”: Before the advent of moving pictures, people watched scenes with a stereopticon.

To the Editor:

The Guilderland Historical Society will be holding its monthly meeting at the Mynderse-Frederick House in Guilderland Center. The meeting will take place on April 18 with a brief business meeting.  starting at 7 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., our guest speaker, Stuart W. Lehman, will provide a hands-on presentation  on stereoscopes or stereopticons. This historic invention would bring historic events as well as natural wonders into the home in the 19th Century.

Lehman has worked at several New York state historic sites. He also participated in Revolutionary War reenactments as a colonial doctor.

Please consider joining us to share in this forerunner of 3-D. As indicated, there will be stereopticons for you to enjoy. Please consider yourself invited.
