Voorheesville

Petitions are due on April 17 for candidates seeking seats on Voorheesville school and library boards. Two incumbents have announced they are running — C. James Coffin for the school board and Janna Shillinglaw for the library board.

Few voters cast ballots in uncontested elections in Voorheesville and Altamont.

The Voorheesville Dionysians are producing a “Mary Poppins” musical that is, as director Robert Whiteman put it “entertaining on the surface” but rife with complex relationships to explore beneath.

VOORHEESVILLE — The public is invited to attend a Community Visioning Workshop to inform the village’s Comprehensive Plan Committee.

The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at St. Matthew’s Church at 25 Mountainview St. in Voorheesville.

NEW SCOTLAND — Nominating petitions are available for the position of trustee for the Voorheesville Public Library Board to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the term of Janna Shillinglaw.

A 14-member comprehensive land-use committee, developing the village’s first master plan, is is to have its work completed within 10 months.


    

In Altamont, Kerry Dineen, submitted the sole petition for mayor. She will be the village’s first female mayor and will serve for four years.

A Voorheesville mother raised concerns that  90 percent of Voorheesville sixth-graders have averages of 85 or higher and yet, on standardized tests, only 20 to 30 percent score in the top.
