Until very recently, American chess was largely centered in New York, with some secondary centers in California and possibly Chicago.

Prizes include rounds of golf at Troy Country Club, The Edison Club, The Lazy Swan, Wiltwyck Country Club, Pinehaven CC, Hiland Country Club, Eagle Crest Golf Course, and Ballston Spa Country Club.

The country relies entirely on hydroelectric and geothermal energy, has clean air and water, and I was amazed at drivers who actually obey speed limits. Unfortunately, my memories of the country are bittersweet because of my performance in the chess tournament.
