On Saturday, Dec. 23, the Storm hockey team — composed of Guilderland, Voorheesville, Scotia-Glenville, Schalmont, and Mohonasen players — participated in the Applebee’s Winter Classic. The Storm battled all game long but couldn’t hold the lead and fell 9 to 7.

The Storm lived up to its name in a physical game on Friday, shutting out the Mohawks, 2 to 0, in the first Stick it to Cancer game at Union College. Each team is comprised of players from a number of high schools.

The Storm — made up of Guilderland, Mohonasen, Scotia-Glenville, Schalmont, and Voorheesville players — took to the ice on Friday evening against Section 2’s Albany Academy at the Academies. The Storm could only muster 10 shots in the game and fell, 4 to 0.

Playing with high intensity for the entire game, the Storm — made up of players from five schools: Guilderland, Mohonasen, Scotia-Glenville, Voorheesville, and Schalmont — beat the Queensbury Spartans, 3 to 2, Friday night before Christmas break.

The love for hockey kept the Storm alive.

After two consecutive winless seasons, the Guilderland hockey team is on the chopping block in the proposed GCSD budget. Other high school hockey teams are also struggling to get players.
