BERNE — An educator in the Middleburgh school district, Kim Lovell says she sees many parallels between the school she teaches in and the school she sends her child to, Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

At a Berne-Knox-Westerlo Board of Education workshop meeting, there were several presentations of different visions on how to restructure the school, ranging from new schedules to architectural designs.

Prior to the recent school board meeting, board members and residents gathered for a tour of entrances where improvements in security are among the goals of an extensive renovation.

This fall, as many as seven special-needs students will be grouped in Voorheesville secondary classrooms so that they may receive help from an extra teacher while learning with their general-education classmates.

The reorganization meeting also tapped Lillian Sisson-Chrysler, a board member since 2015, to be the board’s new vice president.

GUILDERLAND — The school board here has new leaders, elected in split votes on July 5 at its annual reorganizational meeting.

GUILDERLAND — Incumbents Barbara Fraterrigo and Gloria Towle-Hilt are running again for the Guilderland School Board. They are joined by newcomer Teresa Gitto.

Colleen O’Connell is not seeking a fifth term.

The three-year terms on the nine-member board are at-large and unpaid.

Residents have until April 18 to file petitions to run, with a minimum of 25 signatures.

The new superintendent said that, at the next school board meeting, district programs that alleviate harassment will be explained. "Our mantra has been find it and fix it," he said.

BERNE — The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Parent-Teacher Association will be hosting a Meet the Candidates Night on Monday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the secondary school library.  This is the night before the special vote, which will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
