Guilderland police officers and school officials are reminding drivers to be careful around school buses with flashing lights, or face high fines and penalties.

A carnival of games inside the packed Altamont Elementary School on March 6 used small white tickets for access, raising funds for a class field trip. Altamont fifth graders read “All the Way Home,” a book by Patricia Reilly Giff in which two young fans of the Brooklyn Dodgers, one from an upstate apple orchard, the other in Brooklyn, form a friendship on Coney Island and plan to return to the bucolic upstate orchard.  Teacher Karen Shaffer said the students already toured Indian Ladder Farms, in New Scotland, and they look forward to visiting Coney Island.

Two cousins spent between 40 and 50 hours constructing a huge snowman, partly to attract enough attention to raise money for researching a common blood cancer.

A past chief, Owen Murray accepted a certificate of appreciation at the annual Altamont Fire Department installation dinner on Saturday at the Cider House Restaurant. 

The snowstorm Tuesday brought just a few inches to the Hilltowns, but the school buses and beef cattle weathered its visit in the middle of the day.
