Hilltowns Players

“Deck the Halls,” an original musical by Penny Shaw, will be performed this weekend by the Hilltowns Players in the troupe’s 35th year.

Watch a mystery unfold at the Altamont Reformed Church. The adventure takes place during a dessert theater production of “Alibis” on Saturday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. at 129 Lincoln Ave. Altamont.

BERNE — While far from being the oldest community theater group around  — that honor is claimed by the Footlight Club in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain (1877) — the Hilltowns Players have been a source of fun, entertainment, creative outlet, and instruction in theater arts for more than three decades now.

Our community theater company was founded back in 1982 and "Li'l Abner" was our very first show!  How many of you remember that?

The musical comedy set in Ancient Rome will be performed at Berne-Knox-Westerlo on Nov. 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. and on the 23rd at 3 p.m.

A nursery-school teacher, a mechanic, a chef, a student, a plumber, a bus driver all set aside their real-life roles to bring Charles Dickens's Christmas Carol to life on stage.

Auditions are on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Monday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Helderberg Lutheran Church in Berne. A large cast is needed, so no one will be turned away.
