GUILDERLAND CENTER — Banners depicting the history of Guilderland Center now hang from utility poles in the hamlet.

The banners will hang year-round, with a group selected for spring and summer, and another for fall and winter.

The McKownville Fire Department, which like the Guilderland Center Fire Department is 100 years old this year, plans to go ahead with its $3.2M expansion plan, and will make it financially feasible by closing the firehouse throughout the construction period.

Radar signs telling drivers how fast they are going went up on May 24 at both ends of the section of Route 146 that runs from Park Guilderland to Depot Road.

Guilderland Center’s yoga studio is aiming to appeal to the whole community and bring in people who might not normally try the practice.

The zoning board of appeals made decisions in March about parking boats in driveways and installing white vinyl privacy fences in side yards in a luxury neighborhood where those kinds of fences were prohibited in the purchase contracts.

As the Army Corps of  Engineers closes out a former burn-pit area at the now-defunct Army depot, a system must be put in place so that future generations know of potential hazards to human health.

Guilderland schoolhouse, Guilderland Center

The Guilderland school district is proposing to use $30,000 to repair the cobblestone schoolhouse on Route 146 in Guilderland Center, to prevent its deterioration. 

A public session Monday night was meant to close out a former burn-pit area at the now-defunct Army depot near Guilderland Center as requiring “no further action.” But two important questions were raised: What if future property owners are not aware of dangers from remaining vapors, and will the federal government cover costs to mitigate “vapor intrusion” if a new structure is built in the area with elevated concentrations?
