Districts like at Cobleskill-Richmondville are currently letting students take college courses from the State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill in the high school, in order to earn a degree a year early.

Forty-seven percent of Guilderland high-school students now have averages of 90 or above. Saying that the system of ranking students harms those who have high grades but not necessarily a high rank, students have called for ranking to be eliminated altogether, and the board of education is listening.

A nearly 20-year-old policy allows college students in New York State to purchase textbooks tax-free. There is little advertising of the policy, but government and business officials assert that it is well-known.

Five Guilderland seniors signed their letters of intent for college sports teams next fall. Six others signed last fall, meaning 11 Guilderland students will go on to Division I and Division II programs.
