GUILDERLAND — After many years without a contested race, this May 21st, five candidates are vying for three seats on the Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees. Two are incumbents — Barbara Fraterrigo and Barry Nelson — and three are newcomers: Catherine Barber, Mark Keeling, and Philip Metzger.

This May, voters residing in the Voorheesville Central School District will decide on a $25.4 million school budget for next year.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo

The $23 million proposed Berne-Knox-Westerlo budget for 2019-20, adopted by the school board on Monday, will trigger a half-of-1-percent tax-levy increase. While some argued there should be no tax increase at all, others said that the budget was “baseline” and “uncomfortably tight” and would have been better with a slightly higher increase.

Another increase in prescription drug costs has pushed the Voorheesville budget deficit for the 2019-20 school year to over $600,000.

VOORHEESVILLE — The village’s proposed $2.64 million budget for next year is down significantly from this year’s budget of $3.23 million. The roughly $300,000 garnered from property taxes is below the state-set levy limit.

The Voorheesville School Board will have to make some deep cuts to next year’s budget to fill a gap created by an increase in prescription-drug costs.

The first draft of Altamont’s 2019-20 budget is about $2.3 million.

At its monthly meeting, the New Scotland Town Board approved a budget for next year, and set a public hearing date for a proposed law to amend the town’s existing dog-control law.

The proposed Rensselaerville budget for 2019 has an increase of about $33,000 in its general and highway funds. Increases of town workers’ wages drew the ire of some residents, but were defended by town officials as being increases on already low salaries.
