BERNE — A box draped in a white sheet was a transformative device on the floor of the Berne library. In went a gray-haired man after reading a book, and out crawled a baby boy.

Children trailing colorful balloons carted picture books down Helderberg Trail in wagons and wheelbarrows, accompanied by their relatives, to the new home of the Berne Public Library on Oct. 19. They ran, rode, and strolled from the old library at Town Hall to their resting place inside the former St.

The first fair at the Altamont Fairgrounds was 120 years ago in 1893 according to the website www.altamontfair.com.
