ALBANY COUNTY — Two 19-year-olds, said to be best friends, were in a car crash in June that killed the passenger.

Albany County’s jail has policies instructing employees on the use of force and of chemicals, but not on solitary confinement, according to information from an Enterprise Freedom of Information Law request. Chief Deputy William Rice said that is because solitary confinement isn’t used at the county jail.

ALBANY COUNTY — Michael Snyder, 59, of Medusa, who worked as a corrections officer at the county jail, was arraigned Friday morning on charges he had raped an inmate at the jail, and had sexual contact with another.

The jailed woman said that Michael A. Snyder Sr., of Rensselaerville, raped her three times in the last two weeks.

Albany County received millions in government funds to upgrade its communication system. Now volunteer fire departments worry how they’ll be able to pay for the required new radios.
