Albany Figure Skating Club hosts workshop

The Albany Figure Skating Club will host a full-day United States Figure Skating Basic Skills Program workshop for coaches, skaters, and parents.

The workshop will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Ice Arena, 191 103rd St., Troy. This very special workshop is the only US Figure Skating-sponsored Basic Skills workshop on the East Coast this fall, and skaters and coaches from all over the Northeast and New England have been invited.

Noted instructors from around the country will be coming to share their expertise with participants, including Erin Schopf, the US Figure Skating Basic Skills Program Manager, and World and Olympic Coach Janet Tremer.

In this fun and challenging workshop, Basic Skills skaters will receive both on-ice and off-ice instruction geared toward improving their skills and working toward individual goals. The parent workshop will provide parents with the opportunity to gain figure skating knowledge and to ask questions and share information in a comfortable setting. Finally, the instructors workshop will provide Basic Skills directors, instructors, and assistants with practical knowledge and proven strategies to improve coaching performance.

The cost of the skater and instructor workshops is $75 per participant, which includes lunch and snacks, and the parent workshop is free to participants. Registration deadline is Sept. 2.
