Fostering a love of learning

A special place for books: Scouts display the bookcase they made while teachers of the students who will use those books smile. From left are pre-kindergarten teacher Lisa Momberger, Mackenzie Hall, Laura Grippen, and pre-kindergarten teacher Marge Capuano.

To the Editor:

For our Girl Scout Silver Award project we, with Mr. Al Gaige’s assistance, built two bookshelves for the Berne-Knox-Westerlo pre-kindergarten students. We did this so that the children could learn how to read, as well as enjoy reading by the time they enter kindergarten.

We completed these bookshelves with the help of Mr. Gaige, Mrs. Maria Shafer, and our fellow Girl Scouts.

The Silver is the highest award a middle school girl can earn in scouting.
