The Legion Riders Second Annual Poker Run was a great success

To the Editor:

We, the American Legion Riders Post 977 of Altamont, would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who helped make our second annual poker run, to benefit Soldier On, a great success. We want to especially thank all of the local businesses and individuals that participated as sponsors, donated items for drawings, donated food items for the barbecue, and those motorcycle enthusiasts who rode in support of our cause.

Thank you to all of the police agencies and the Knox Fire Department for assisting in traffic control during the ride. The ALR thanks the Voorheesville Fire Department for providing a starting point and providing breakfast and the others stops: the Brass Rail Tavern at Norton Hill, the American Tavern in Cobleskill, and the Township Tavern in Knox.

A special thanks goes to the community of Altamont and the neighbors of the post for their continued support. Lastly, a big thank-you to all of the people who volunteered their time and effort again this year to make this event such a success.

We are proud to report that we have raised approximately $16,000 for the Soldier On project, which provides housing, counseling, education, and much more to homeless veterans. We hope that our effort helps make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate of our American heroes.
