Come to the Spring Fling to support Maddie’s Mark

To the Editor:

My name is Josh Lare. I am the past chief of the Guilderland Center Fire Department and the father of a cancer survivor.  I am writing in regard to an event we are putting on at the Guilderland Center Fire Department in conjunction with an incredible local organization, Maddie’s Mark Foundation.

The Maddie’s Mark Foundation (www.maddiesmark.org) was established in early 2012 to honor Madeline Musto — an independent, vibrant 5-year-old girl who was taken away from the world too quickly by an inoperable brain-stem tumor (DIPG).  The foundation's mission is to spread Madeline's spirit by providing opportunities, creating environments, and enabling children and families live a life of “best days ever.”

The foundation provides the “best day ever” for children suffering major illness and provide support to their families, along with many other assistance programs.

When my son was diagnosed at 17 months with cancer in November 2012, I didn’t know what to do or how to feel.  The folks at Maddie’s Mark gave my son the “best day ever” and were just there to support us through a very tough time.

With that being said, I wanted to give back to this amazing group of people, so the Guilderland Center Fire Department is hosting a Spring Fling event to raise funds for Maddie's Mark. Tickets are $20 per person, which includes appetizers, beer, wine, water and soda. Children 10 and under are free! There will be dancing to a great local live band, Wide Awake.

This awesome event will be held at the Guilderland Center Fire Department, located at 30 School Rd. in Guilderland Center on Saturday, April 26, at 5 p.m. until the band stops singing! To purchase tickets, please call 861-8871 or e-mail tickets@gcfd.net.
