You have wrapped your arms around a man who made a mistake

To the Editor:

The fund-raiser for the Ken Fortuin Legal Defense Fund has been moved to the Maple Inn in East Berne due to an overwhelming response.  When it became apparent that we will have over 150 attendees, the Octagon Barn clearly was not going to be large enough.  We thank Chris and Amanda at the Maple Inn for coming to our rescue without a moment’s hesitation.

The event will still be held this Saturday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 5 p.m. — but at the Maple Inn.  There will be a roast pig pulled pork (smoked at Capital Q in Albany), roasted turkey and ham, and lots of side dishes and desserts made by Ken’s friends and supporters.

The contribution at the door is $15 for adults, and $5 for children under 10; children under 5 are admitted for free.  There will also be drawings throughout the day.  Please rest assured that 100 percent of the proceeds raised by this event will go to defray Ken’s legal defense expenses.

For the snowmobilers out there, a ride to Support Ken is being planned for Saturday as well.  Ken loves to snowmobile and this will be a great show of support for him.

Anyone interested in participating should be at the Knox Town Park by 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 22.  The group will leave at noon for the Maple Inn with the expected arrival time to be about 1 p.m. to participate in the fund-raiser.

A group photo will be taken once everyone has arrived at the Maple Inn.  For more information or questions, check out the “Defending Ken Fortuin” Facebook page.

For Ken’s supporters who are not able to attend this event and want to support him with a monetary contribution, you can make checks payable to Ken Fortuin Legal Defense Fund and send them to my attention, Cheryl Frantzen, at 248 Line Road, Berne, NY 12023.

To all of Ken’s family, friends, and supporters — thank you.  The way this community has rallied around one of its very own has been totally amazing to see.

You have wrapped your arms around a man who made a mistake and are not judging him on that one mistake.  It has been heartwarming to see and experience this.  This just reaffirms what a wonderful community this is to live in.  Thank you and I look forward to seeing all of you on Saturday.
