Lee’s book taught a ‘home-town boy’ more about Altamont’s history

To the Editor:

I meant to write this letter some time ago. As usual, I was lax.

I deeply appreciated and enjoyed, Keith Lee’s book Images of America Altamont. I phoned Keith to tell him what a great book it is and how much I appreciated it.

Being a “Hometown Boy,” born and bred in Altamont, I knew most of the buildings pictures and a number of the people. But I learned a lot of history I did not know.

James Keenholts was my grandfather after whom I am named. John D. Ogsbury, longtime owner of The Enterprise, was my wife Marjorie’s grandfather. We have always loved Altamont. We read the book together.

I recommend the book not only to “Altamontonians” who have lived here for years but also “newcomers” who want to know more about this community into which they have moved. Thanks, Keith.
