NEW SCOTLAND — In 2007, bats started dying due to white-nose syndrome — a disease first discovered at Hailes Cave in Thacher Park. Nearly a decade later, the social animals have spread the disease north to Canada and west all the way to Nebraska, according to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation biologist Carl Herzog.

ALBANY — Affordable-housing industry representatives will meet here today, Thursday, to discuss the potential $250 million New York State funding that has been proposed to create affordable senior housing across the state.
