Cahill family repairs cars

GUILDERLAND — Michael Cahill hopes to generate drive-in traffic in the auto repair shop he recently opened in his hometown.

A McKownville resident for more than 30 years, he opened Cahill’s Auto Garage, at 1436 Western Ave., 10 days ago.

Cahill, who has been working with cars for 33 years, has owned a used-car dealership, in conjunction with a repair shop, in Menands for nine years, but decided to move the service department into his own neighborhood because he thought he might get more walk-in customers there, that is, customers who will get service without an appointment.

“Everyone knows me here,” he said. He has been a football coach with the Guilderland School District for many years.

The shop does automobile repairs — not bodywork — as well as inspections.

“I took a look at the demographics up here and there are not many repair shops,” said Cahill.

He wants the shop to be a family business, and his two sons, Michael Jr. and Ryan, are working with him.

“It can be interesting,” he said. “But, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Above all, Cahill said he wants people to know that he prides himself on quality work.

“It’s quality service at an affordable price,” he said.
