Albert Thiem

Albert Thiem was appointed by the Berne Town Board at its Jan. 1 reorganizational meeting to fill a vacancy left by former councilwoman, Bonnie Conklin.

The first event will be a proclamation on Feb. 28, the town’s official 200th anniversary, and it will be followed by various events through August, including a barbecue, pageant, and fireworks.

Co-pastors Greg and Becky Town arrived in the Hilltowns in January 2021 to begin their calling at the Reformed chores in the Knox hamlet and at Thompson’s Lake, after the previous pastor had been abruptly removed by the consistory in early 2019.  

KNOX — August “Jeff” Landauer, Knox’s longtime highway superintendent, knew how to maintain roads and maintain relationships — with care and constancy. He didn’t hold grudges but took a wider view — like the one he’d get flying his airplane over the Hilltowns he loved.

The Lunar Codex, says its creator, is “a message-in-a-bottle to the future, a snapshot of our generation. Our hope is that future travelers who find these time capsules will discover some of the richness of our world today.

“Overall, the children in shared parenting families had better outcomes on measures of emotional, behavioral, and psychological well-being, as well as better physical health and better relationships with their fathers and their mothers, benefits that remained even when there were high levels of conflict between their parents.”

The Albany Water Board, steward of the Basic Creek dam in Westerlo, has received $100,000 from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to come up with a design for a rehabilitation project for the high-hazard dam, which is in substandard condition.

A digital equity map, put together by a coalition of organizations including the New York State Education Department and the New York State Library, shows that approximately 15 percent of Hilltown households don’t have internet access, whether because they don’t have an internet subscription or because they don’t have internet-capable devices.
