Randall S. Engel died unexpectedly while enjoying a round of golf on Friday, Nov. 6, in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was 67.

All Guilderland schools, including the middle school and high school with new coronavirus cases, are remaining open for in-person instruction.

A fairy-tale book released by J.K. Rowling to entertain kids confined by the pandemic lured 12-year-old Isla Besha of Altamont to draw a picture that was chosen, in an international contest, to illustrate the book.

During an Oct. 6 town board meeting, Supervisor Peter Barber noted that Guilderland had been prepared for a difficult 2021 budget in part because of planning that began long before anyone had heard of the coronavirus. 

On Saturday morning, the Guilderland Dutch girls soccer team took on Albany where the Dutch won 6-to-0.

Each year, the Christ Child Society provides 500 layettes, 500 comfort bags, and 1,000 books to agencies in 10 counties in New York State, and one county in Vermont. Layettes consist of a handcrafted blanket, sweater and hat, hooded bath towel, diapers, onesies, sleepers and receiving blankets.

GUILDERLAND — With great pleasure, Kathleen and Dan Powers of Guilderland and Susan and Charles Guilford of Surry, Maine announce the marriage of their children, Carolyn Powers and Samuel Guilford. The couple were married at the bride’s family home in an intimate backyard ceremony on Oct. 25, 2020.

So far this school year, Guilderland has had four cases of COVID-19 before the current case — two at Altamont Elementary and two at Guilderland High School.

Town justices of the peace in the 1890s and early 1900s had an easy time hearing the relatively few cases that arose here each year.
