The Guilderland Boys volleyball team took to the court at Bethlehem High School to take on the Eagles in a Suburban Council Matchup. The Dutch started hot but then the Eagles took over and swept the Dutch in three sets; 24-26, 9-25, 14-25.

On Thursday, Oct. 7, the Guilderland Girls soccer team faced off against Shaker on the pitch at Shaker High School. The Dutch held the Blue Bison scoreless with Guilderland getting some scoring chances but the tides turned in the second half as the Dutch fell 2-to-0.

GUILDERLAND — Beatrice Doreen (née Williams) Pikcilingis, a religious woman who loved traveling and being with her family, was a long-time resident of Guilderland.

Mrs. Pikcilingis died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at Ellis Rehab and Residential Center in Schenectady. She was 94.

ALTAMONT — D. Frances Ripley was a master needle crafter whose work was sought by museums. She freely shared her love and knowledge of spinning and knitting each summer at the Altamont Fair’s Wool Nook.

The town of Guilderland is opposing a request from Crossgates that the mall’s 2020 and 2021 tax certiorari cases be consolidated into one lawsuit in part because the circumstances surrounding the valuations “were completely different.” The 2021 case would be based on a July 2020 valuation — when malls were closed for three of the year’s six months — compared to a 2020 tax hearing, which would be based on numbers from July 2019.

Altamont trustees during last month’s board meeting expressed concern with the conflict-of-interest waiver because Sept. 7 was the first time they’d heard anything about it. 

Guilderland school district residents passed a $21.8 million capital project on Thursday with nearly 64 percent voting in favor.

“After what our kids have been through, this is awesome,” said Superintendent Marie Wiles on Thursday night just after the results were in.
