Photos: A new challenge for a new year

Guilderland Elementary School fifth-graders took on challenging tasks Friday, launching a year-long research project with the University at Albany’s Department of Educational Theory and Practice, under the direction of Associate Professor Jianwei Zhang. Each of Friday’s activities was to encourage the students to ask questions and share and discuss ideas about the systems of the body.

Fifth-graders at Guilderland Elementary School started learning about the human body on Friday as each tried to pick up a ball with just one hand. This girl conquered the task with concentration and clever use of her foot.

The kids wore goggles that blocked their sight, making it tough to toss a beanbag; a loud ticking timer helped them locate the target.
