You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream: The cones were free at the National Night Out Tuesday in Tawasentha Park, and kids lined up with ice-cream-outlined smiles to show their pleasure. One of the largest crime-prevention gatherings in the country, the event also included games, music, police-dog demonstrations, and traffic-safety instruction.

Flipping burgers: Chuck Myers, a volunteer with the Guilderland Fire Department, is used to smoke. Eight of Guilderland’s fire departments were represented Tuesday at National Night Out in Tawasentha Park, sponsored by the Guilderland Police Department’s Community Service Unit. Crowds turned out for the annual free even but were deluged by rain later in the night.
