Photos: Birds Edged Out Of Championship

Voorheesville traveled to Westmoreland High School to take on Section 3 Sauquoit Valley for the Class C regional championship in winter boys' volleyball on March 5.

Eyes on the ball: Voorheesville’s Shane Whitman looks to bump the ball toward a teammate so the Blackbirds can win a point in the Class C regional championship at Westmoreland High School. Whitman had 18 digs last Saturday. Voorheesville’s Braden Racey had 24 kills and 21 digs.

Just by the fingertip: Voorheesville’s Alex Sleasman hits the ball by using his fingertips past a Section 3 Sauquoit Valley player during the second set of the Blackbirds’ five-set loss last Saturday in the Class C regional Championship. Sleasman had four kills and five blocks. Teammate James Connolly had seven kills for the Blackbirds.

“They played a great match on Saturday,” said Voorheesville Head Coach Adrian Michalski about his team’s performance in the Class C regional championship game. “They forced Sauquoit Valley to play their absolute best match,” said Michalski of the Blackbirds who lost in five sets: 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 21-25. Here, Miles DeFranco bumps the ball to a teammate. DeFranco had three aces, 14 kills, and 22 digs in the championship game.
