A far call for firemen: Fire companies that helped in emergency relief last month after areas in western New York got as much as 10 feet of snow are recognized Monday night as Albany County Legislator Deborah Busch of Berne, at far right, presents a proclamation for their service. Standing, from left, are Berne Chief Dave Clark, Commissioner Gerald O’Malley, Westerlo Lieutenant Ethan Sharp, Bridget Minute, Berne Captain Nicholas Minute, East Berne firefighter Brandon Kallner, Danielle Smith, East Berne Assistant Chief Jason Smith, Jen Duncan, and East Berne Chief Scott Duncan. Nicholas Minute, Jason Smith, Kallner, and Sharp traveled to Erie County last month and conducted search-and-rescue missions, delivered welfare checks and medications, checked collapsed buildings, and helped emergency medical crews get to hospitals. Scott Duncan was also helping as an employee of the county’s Department of Public Works.
