Antiques are coming to Schoharie

SCHOHARIE — Sept. 20 and 21 will be the dates for the “Fall Antiques in Schoharie” show presented by the Schoharie Colonial Heritage Association in the historic village.

A special event on Sunday this year by the Schoharie Valley Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America will feature an exhibit of antique cars.

With 100 dealers, this year’s show has an enormous variety of treasures, including estate jewelry, art glass, original painted 18th-Century furniture and textiles, oriental rugs, clocks, toys, linens and lace, lighting, paintings, and prints. The show management makes every effort to maintain customer confidence, with standards set to make sure that dealers present only authentic antiques and collectibles.

“One can spend $5 or $5,000 at this show and walk away with a treasure,” organizers say. “If all of the above isn’t enough, the food is country fresh and tasty, prepared by the best cooks in Schoharie County. Have a picnic under the big tents and enjoy homemade chili, corn chowder, sandwiches and hot dogs all topped off by the famous irresistible homemade pies.”

Proceeds from the semi-annual antiques shows fund the ongoing historic activities of the Schoharie Colonial Heritage Association.  These include: the continued cleanup and restoration of the railroad museum after Tropical Storm Irene; the maintenance of the historic Schoharie Valley railroad grounds with its 1848 brick station house, restored baggage car and old Mill Building, used by various community groups; and the preservation of the 1743 Lutheran Parsonage, the oldest building in Schoharie County.  All are open to the public during the antique show hours.

The show will be held at 143 Depot Lane Center, Schoharie, on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission is $6.

Parking is available on the Depot Lane Center grounds.  For list of motels, bed-and-breakfast inns, restaurants, or any other information call Debbie Tow at the association office at 295-7505 or Ruth Anne Wilkinson at 231-7241 or email
