Capital District Youth Chorale is auditioning singers

The Capital District Youth Chorale, now entering its fourth decade, is accepting appointments for new member auditions. The singers will rehearse at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland.

CDYC performs at least six local concerts per year. The group has earned 10 Superior ratings in music festivals in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Florida, and Pennsylvania, and in Canada.  The singers have also performed in Carnegie Hall, twice at Disney World by audition, as well as the Shrewsbury International Festival in England.

During the 2013-14 season, the chorale will perform for the eighth consecutive year with the Albany Symphony at the Palace Theater in December for the Magic of Christmas.   December will include the annual Christmas performance at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Albany.  Fall plans also include an October performance at The College of Saint Rose Massrey Center

Recent memorable performances included performances at Old South Church in Boston in 2010; the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in 2009; the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.; and an adjudication festival in Toronto, Canada where the chorale earned a Superior rating at North American Music Festivals in 2008.  The chorus was also was selected for the eighth consecutive year for WMHT Holiday Choirs production in 2011.

The 120 singers rehearse on Saturdays between 9:30 a.m. and noon with staggered starting and ending times.  The staff includes four New York certified music educators including Diane Warner (the founder and director), James McGarvey (the assistant director and accompanist), Lynn Makrin, and Matt Duclos.

The group is divided into three ensembles, choristers (in grades 4 to 6), junior chamber choir (in grades 6 to 8) and senior chamber choir (in grades 9 to 12).  The Senior Chamber Choir includes boys with changed voices.

Auditions and the first rehearsal will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7.   A limited number of scholarships are available.  Please contact the parent coordinator, Doreen Wright, at cdyc123@gmail.com for more information or to schedule an audition.  More information, including audio samples, is available on cdyc.org or the cdyc page on facebook.
