Berne Summerfest seeks crafters, artisans

BERNE — Berne’s annual Summerfest — a fun-filled day of music, games, delicious food, demonstrations, fireworks and more — will be held this year on Saturday, Aug. 23, between noon and dark.  The rain date is Aug. 24.

We are now seeking artisans, crafters, and other interested parties for participation in the event.   Potters, tinsmiths, weavers, jewelers, painters, woodcrafters, and all other artisans are welcome.

Purveyors of food products — honey, vegetables, fruits, United States Department of Agriculture packaged meats, and other cooking staples — are welcome to set up in our expanded farmers’ market.  And, musicians, actors, puppeteers, and bands are being sought for our performance stage.

Individuals or organizations willing to give workshops or demonstrations of skilled activities are also invited to participate.  Saw sharpening, wool spinning, pottery making, and sheep shearing are just a few examples of the type of activities we would welcome.

Admission is free for all vendors, but registration is necessary.  Registration forms can be found on the town of Berne website, or at the town clerk’s office in Berne’s newly renovated town hall, on Helderberg Trail.

Contact Anita Clayton, the Berne town clerk, for more information at or call 872-1448 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, or between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturdays.

This year’s event promises to be even larger and more comprehensive than last year’s.  Please consider joining us for this community gathering. It is sure to bring joy to all who participate in the fun.

Editor’s note: Karen Schimmer is the Summerfest chairwoman, and a member of the Berne Town Board.
