Westerlo Library Notes for Wednesday, November 6, 2013

Check out – Librarians love saying “check out” – the free shelf for the Westerlo Public Library’s  great selection of advance reader copies of YA fiction.  They include your favorite authors and new writers you may like to give a test drive.

Advance reader copies are promotional tools that publishers provide to booksellers, journalists, librarians, and other book reviewers.  They are uncorrected proofs and may contain minor misspellings and grammar mistakes, so we cannot add these books to our collection or sell them – they are clearly marked prepublication, not for sale – but we can share them with our readers who love this genre.  So, you know, check ‘em out!

Holiday opening

The library will be open on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11.

Trustees meet

The Board of Library Trustees will meet on Monday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., at the library.  This meeting is open to the public.

New quilting group

Our new quilting group will meet on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m.  Led by Lila Hollister Smith, the group is open to all skill levels.  Hollister is a founding member of the Capital District Textile Artists group and a long-time member of QUILT, Inc.  She also teaches, gives trunk show talks and exhibits in art galleries.  If you are interested in joining the group – new members are welcome – attend a meeting on the 2nd or 4th Saturday of the month.

Story time

Our toddler and preschool story time meets on Wednesday at 10 a.m.  Join Miss Lee for stories, songs, games and movement activities designed for children ages two to five years old.  In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Technology walk-in Wednesday

Do you need to brush up on your computer skills – or obtain basic skills?  See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one, hands-on instruction on how to work the mouse, navigate the Internet, set up an e-mail account, use office automation programs, and more.  If Wednesday mornings are not convenient, please contact us to schedule an appointment.
