Westerlo Library Notes for Wednesday, June 25, 2014

The Westerlo Public Library’s 2014 Summer Reading Program is full of activities for readers of all ages. Sign up and explore how science influences almost every aspect of our lives, as we “Fizz, Boom, READ!”  Starting with Mr. Magicman’s show Friday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m., at Westerlo town hall, weekly activities will feature age-appropriate science and technology programs and activities. The full calendar of events is available on our website and at the library.  Registration is now open during regular library hours.

Road trip

Librarians everywhere will agree that Sue Speciale has given her granddaughter the coolest gift, ever. Sue and seven-year-old MacKenzie cherish the time the two of them spend together at the East Greenbush Community Library.  And, as experienced library users, they understand that their home library is one of 29 members of the Upper Hudson Library System.  So, as a special grandmother-granddaughter project, they decided to challenge themselves and visit all 29 member libraries in the system. When they arrived at Westerlo on Saturday, June 7, they had four more libraries to go, and expected to meet their goal the following week.

Silent auction

The library’s month-long silent auction will end on Thursday, July 3. The auction features six beautiful quilted table runners donated by the Westerlo Quilting Group. The quilts are currently on display at the library. Preview the quilts and get information about the bidding procedures at the library’s website: www.westerlolibrary.org.   All proceeds of the auction will benefit the library.

Quilting group

The Quilting Group will meet on Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m.  Lead by Lila Hollister Smith, the group is open to all skill levels. The group meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month and new members are welcomed.

Holiday closing

The library will be closed on Friday, July 4, in observation of Independence Day.
