Westerlo Library Notes for Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Thank you to everyone who has participated in this ongoing fund-raiser for capital projects at the Westerlo Public Library. Our Memorial Brick fund-raiser is a great opportunity to honor your friends and family, memorialize a loved one, or promote your business or organization with a commemorative brick. Your personalized, engraved brick will be displayed in the walkway and landscaped area to be built in 2015 in front of the library.

For more information, pick up a brochure at the library, or visit www.polarengraving.com/WesterloLibrary.

Quilting group

The library’s quilting group will meet on Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m.  Members show and share techniques, gadgets, projects and ideas — you may get help with problems or inspiration.  Bring any fabric or fiber (knit, crochet, weaving, etc.) project to show. We would love to see what you can do.

Lead by Lila Hollister Smith, the group is open to all crafters who use fibers and textiles at all skill levels.  The group meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month and new members are welcomed.

Book discussion

The library book discussion group will meet on Thursday, June 18, at 7 p.m., at the library. We will discuss “Saratoga: Turning Point of America’s Revolutionary War,” by Richard M. Ketchum. With clear, vigorous prose and well-drawn portraits of famous and obscure personalities, Ketchum captures a stirring time in American history, producing what should be the definitive study of Burgoyne's defeat for many years to come.  Please join us.  New members are welcome.

After school

at the library

Join Miss Lee on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for homework help, games, crafts, puzzles, music, and a lot more. Programs will also include storytelling, magic, hands-on demonstrations, and visits from special guests. She is also available on Thursdays from 3 to 8 p.m., for homework help.

Story time

Join Miss Lee on Wednesday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m., for stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants and children up to five years old. In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Technology Walk-In Wednesday

Do you have a new Kindle or Nook but don’t know how to download books? Need to brush up on your computer skills or obtain basic skills? See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.
