Westerlo Library Notes for Friday, April 29, 2016

You can now receive text messages for library hold pickup alerts, overdue reminders, and other courtesy notices.  This is an opt-in service.  Log into your online library account and go to “edit account.”  In “mobile settings,” enter your cellphone number, check “opt in,” and submit — or pick up more detailed instructions at the circulation desk.  We’ll be happy to help you get started.

Calling All Bakers

The library’s annual Book & Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, May 7 — the day before Mother’s Day — from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library.  Donations of baked goods are welcome.  A sign-up sheet is at the circulation desk.

Everyone else, mark your calendars!  This is your chance to treat Mom to something sweet on her special day. There will also be a selection of books, music, and videos for sale.

We couldn’t do it without the support of our community.  Thanks to our friends and patrons who support our book and bake sales and allow us to “keep the change” when paying for fines or photocopies.  Every penny makes a difference!

Toddler, preschool storytime

From 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday mornings, Miss Lee presents stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to age 5.  In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Storytimes are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.

After School @ The Library

Join Miss Lee on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for homework help, games, crafts, puzzles, music and a lot more. Programs will also include storytelling, hands-on demonstrations, and visits from special guests.  Lee is also available on Thursdays from 3 to 8 p.m. for homework help.

Technology Walk-In Wednesdays:

Do you have a new smartphone or tablet, but don’t know how to download books?  Need to brush up on your computer skills – or obtain basic skills?  See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.
