Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, June 10, 2015

The Voorheesville Public Library is planning a super Summer Reading Program for all ages. This year’s theme is “Every Hero Has a Story!” Reader registration opened online on June 1. Voorheesville Elementary School students will be able to create their accounts during library time in school.

With our new reader reward system, all participants who record their reading will receive prizes at the end of the program, and also earn tickets for grand prize drawings. Check the library’s online calendar to see all of the fun events we have scheduled. Registration is required for some of these activities and began on June 1.

You can register right through the online calendar, by phone or using email. We’ll be kicking off the fun with our annual Ice cream social on Thursday, June 25, at 6:30 p.m. The library is excited to keep our community’s young people reading and learning through the summer, we hope to see you here.

Did you know the library now has online program registration? Just go to our library website and click the link to the events calendar. This is where you will find information about upcoming programs and registration forms. Of course, you can still call the library or stop by the reference desk to register for a program.

Saturday Study Hall

On June 13 and 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the library offers open study hall. Do you need a quiet place to work? Need a space for your study group to meet? Come to the library! The community room is open and set up for quiet work. Individuals and small groups welcome.

Teens Care: Pillowcase Sewing Party

At 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, June 30, student’s can be part of the Albany Chapter of ConKerr Cancer’s pillowcase project. The group provides emotional support to area cancer patients by providing them with fun pillowcases while they are receiving treatment.

All materials will be provided, teen power is needed to pin material, run the sewing machines, and iron the pillowcases. You will earn two hours of community service during this pillowcase party. This program is for students entering grades 7 and up, please register.

3D Printing

Drop in on Monday, June 22, at 6:00 p.m., to check out the library’s new 3D printer. The library received a generous grant from the Albany County Legislature to purchase the Cube printer, and Sense 3D scanner. Watch it work, and learn how you can find or create a project to print for yourself. All ages are welcome.

Beginning beaded jewelry

Learn the ever-popular beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Stop by the library on Thursday, June 18, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., for some jewelry making fun time. We’ve added wire choices to our supply of beads and findings. Adults and teens ages 14 and up can register online, by phone or in person. There will be a small materials fee.
