Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, April 22, 2015

No gift is more special than one that they make themselves. Children in pre-kindergarten through grade four are invited to drop in to the Voorheesville Public Library on Saturday, April 25, between 10 a.m. and noon, for this program where we’ll make parent, grandparent, and caregiver appreciation crafts. These can be great gifts to give to loved ones on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. No registration is necessary.

The Pillowcase Project

Is your child prepared in case of an emergency or natural disaster? Do you have a family emergency preparedness plan to stay safe?  On Saturday, May 9, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., educators from the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York will discuss fire safety and general emergency preparedness.

The presentation will cover coping skills all children should practice to better deal with emergency situations. Children in grades three through six will receive a pillowcase to decorate that will hold all their emergency supplies. Parents should plan to attend with their child. Please register for this program.

Mark Twain 100 years later

On Thursday, May 7, at 7p.m., Dave Ehlert, performer and impersonator from Branson, Mo., will be bringing to life the American literary icon, Mark Twain. Twain’s life story will be retold through period costume, impersonation, and his famous quotes with a strong emphasis on the importance of literacy.

Twain is one of America’s greatest authors of the 19th Century and his books are part of American history. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled and educational evening. This program is for middle school through adult ages.

Saturday study hall

Do you need a quiet place to work? Need a space for your study group to meet? Come to the library. The community room is open and set up for quiet work on May 2 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individuals and small groups are welcome or drop in during regular hours.

April displays

There are only a few more days to enjoy award-winning artist of the month, Nancy Noble Gardner. Her work has been featured in “The Washington Post,” “Vineyard Style,” “Cape Cod Life,” and “Odyssey Magazine”.  Please be sure to stop by and stroll through the gallery to enjoy this show.

Our display case is filled with Shirley Temple memorabilia, shared by Rose Lawson. She has collected Shirley Temple items for most of her life and has graciously arranged to display a portion of her collection for our enjoyment.
