On April 19 at 1 p.m. come to the library for Up-cycle T-Shirt Tote Bags. Bring a T-Shirt and we'll show you how to turn it into a reusable tote bag! Use it for books, toys, treasures and snacks!  This program is for children in grades 2-6 and registration is required.

Then on April 21 at 1 p.m. join us for Teens! Up-cycle T-Shirt Tote Bags. Bring a T-Shirt and we'll show you how to turn it into a reusable tote bag! Use it for books, games, lunch or even laundry! This program is for children in grades 7 to 12 and registration is required.

Family movie

On April 20 at 1 p.m. join us forSchool Break Family Movie - "Luca" - No registration is needed, just come on in.

Budget hearing

On April 20 at 7:30 p.m. the public is welcome at a Library Budget Public Hearing. Please use the back entrance as the library closes at 5 p.m.

Tea and Books

On April 14 at 1 p.m. join  Afternoon Tea and Books for a discussion of “Only Child” by Rhiannon Navin.  Join our book club for a spirited discussion and enjoy tea and treats while we talk. “Only Child” centers around a family reconciling with the aftermath of a mass shooting at an elementary school. It's told from the perspective of 6-year-old Zach, who survived the shooting in which his brother Andy died.

Do you have old family photographs, letters, diaries, or other precious items that you would like to preserve? You can learn about preserving them at a library presentation on March 26 at 11 a.m.

This presentation will discuss how to properly preserve your family’s important documents and photos. It will also provide tips on how to store, display, label, and handle these materials. Preserving these materials will assist family members, now or in the future, to retrace and reconstruct your family history.

This program is presented by Marietta Carr, the librarian at the Schenectady County Historical Society.  Registration is required and space is limited.

Discovery Wednesdays

On March 30 at 11:30 a.m. join us for Discovery Wednesdays -Dino Science.  Discovery Wednesday is a once a month exploration of STEAM topics for preschoolers.  In March we'll be investigating dinosaurs!  We'll read a couple of books and then play at stations around the room each with a different activity.  We'll finish with a short film and a take home bag of goodies for at home discovery. Wednesday Matinee

Hand Painted Tiles

On March 24 at 4 p.m. Our Crafts Around the World series with local artist Sally Ziegler continues this month with hand painted tiles! Learn about beautiful tiles from Portugal, then decorate your own ceramic tile. You may also decorate a foam board tile to display at your library! Kits are available at the library, then participate in the Zoom program and work on the project at home or register to participate from the community room of the library with your friends. Take Home Art Kit

 March is Youth Art Month and we are asking children, teens and adults to celebrate! Pick up a take home kit of materials: a 4"x4" canvas and easel, and a set of acrylic paints and brushes beginning Monday March 7. You may also use any medium that you have at home to create your canvas, such as watercolors or markers. The subject of your painting is up to you but make sure to bring it back to the library by March 30. We will display our tiny art show from the end of March through April. Come be part of the fun! Registration is required.

Discovering a Masterpiece

On March 14 at 7 p.m. join us for The Discovery Of A Masterpiece (online) with  Mallory Mortillaro. She serves as the Curator of Collections for the Hartley Dodge Foundation in Madison, NJ. While she was cataloging the artwork housed inside of the Hartley Dodge Memorial she uncovered a masterpiece that had been lost to the art world since the 1930’s. After a year of research the piece was authenticated as an official work by Auguste Rodin. Mallory will share the story of how a simple art cataloging project evolved into a search for a mysterious piece’s provenance, and became one of the biggest art finds in recent history! Mallory holds a BA and MAT, both from Drew University.  She balances her work as an Art Historian with teaching 7th grade English. She lives in Whippany, New Jersey with her husband. Online program

On March 17 at 6:30 p.m. online join educators from WMHT in a program of family activities based around the book “Library Lion” by Michelle Knudsen. The family bag will include a copy of the storybook and all the materials needed to create a lion mask and more. Registration is required.  This program is happening on the Zoom platform. The first page is written, you have 5 days to write the next page or two, then return the book to the library for someone else to add to your story. Once the book is filled it will be added to the library's collection and be available for check out. This program is for adults, if you're interested in checking out the book to write in, we can reserve it for you or just stop in and see if it's available!

On Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. the library’s Board of Trustees will meet. This meeting is open to the public.

Yarn Birds

On Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. join us for Adult Take and Make.  Learn how to make a charming little bird out of yarn, wire, and a bit of newspaper! Your kit will contain everything you need for this craft except, glue and scissors. This Take and Make is for older Teens and Adults. It is on a first come first serve basis and will be available beginning Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Bird Feeder

On Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. Take and Make will offer a DIY bird feeder. Celebrate National Bird Feeding Month by making this cute birdfeeder! Each kit will include everything you need to make a feeder and lots of bird information and activities! These kits are for kids ages 5 and up and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Kits will be available starting Feb. 22 at 10 a.m.

Discovery  Wednesday

On Feb. 23 at 11a.m join us for our next installment of Discovery Wednesday, Build It Up! We'll focus on engineering with the Children's Museum of Saratoga's virtual program Build it Up. This class introduces kids to the world of engineering as well as the Engineering Design Process. Kids will begin to problem solve like an engineer as they propose and design a solution to solve a major dilemma and save the day! This is a virtual class on the Zoom platform and registration is required.  Materials for this class will be available for pick-up at the library beginning Feb. 1. For children ages 4 to 8.

Crafts Around the World

On Feb. 24 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Crafts Around the World: Maneki Neko Cats (Virtual). For our second installment of Crafts Around the World, local artist, Sally Ziegler will teach us about the Asian tradition of Meneki Neko cats. With the materials provided, you'll make a cat on a mat with air dry clay! Storytime

On Feb. 15 at 10:45 a.m. join Miss Terry for Love (Valentine’s Day!). In person, indoor preschool storytimes are back! This week we'll have a fun celebration of Valentine's Day with books about things that we love. Enjoy this theme-based, multi-age storytime with an emphasis on early literacy and go home with a coloring sheet or take home craft for your little one. Masks are required inside the library regardless of vaccination status for anyone over the age of 2. Registration is required.
