On March 28, the Middleburgh Library Board of Trustees voted to keep our building closed until further notice. The board met, not in person but by teleconferencing.

Our book drop is closed so please, hang on to your library material until we reopen. No fines will be charged!

Please go to our website, www.middleburghlibrary.info, to borrow e-books, audio-books, and magazines.

Also, remember that our wifi is always on; it’s free and is not password-protected. Use it in the parking lot to your heart’s content. Stay well!

In an effort to “flatten the curve” of the coronavirus pandemic through “social distancing,” the Middleburgh Library will be closed for all purposes, effective Monday, March 16.

Additionally, all late fees for borrowed materials are temporarily suspended.

On March 28, the library’s board of trustees will assess the current health crisis and its impact and determine how to proceed.

As always, we appreciate your understanding and support. The Middleburgh Library Association strives to assist our patrons through not only excellence in programming and loaned materials, but also reflecting the social needs our community may encounter.

Best wishes and healthy living from the Middleburgh Library Association Board of trustees and library staff.

Betty and The Baby Boomers will perform on Sunday, March 22, at 4 p.m. at the Middleburgh Library.

Betty and The Baby Boomers will perform as part of the Middleburgh Library Not so Quiet Concert Series on Sunday, March 22, at 4 p.m.

When Betty Boomer, Jean Valla McAvoy, Paul Rubeo, and Steve Stanne began singing together more than 30 years ago, the name made sense — a play on Betty’s name and the fact that all are children of the baby boom. Bassist Robert Bard fit right in demographically when he joined later on.

If they've had second thoughts, it’s too late to change now. “Betty and the Baby Boomers” appears on the covers of the band’s five CDs, and the name is known to folk music fans from the mountains of Connemara in Ireland to the Catskills overlooking New York’s Hudson Valley, their home base.

The folk genre covers many styles. The Boomers’ take on it is suggested in a review of their second recording, “Tumbling Through the Stream of Days,” in the folk song magazine Sing Out! It described the group as “a refreshing reminder of the halcyon days of American folk music” and the CD as “an enthusiastic testament to the sheer joy of singing and playing music.”

In addition to original songs from Jean, the Boomers draw on sources including traditional tunes; Americana roots music; contemporary artists like Greg Brown, Bruce Springsteen, and Dougie MacClean; and classic “folk singers” like Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Phil Ochs

This event is made possible in part with public funds from the Decentralization Program and the New York State Council on the Arts, administered through the Community Arts Grants Program by the Greene County Council on the Arts.

Tickets are available at the door. A $10 donation is suggested. Please use the library’s back entrance.
