Middleburgh Library Notes for Thursday, August 1, 2013

On Aug. 6, at 10:45 a.m., at the Middleburgh Library join us for a perfect ending to our summer story time.  We'll enjoy games, crafts and snacks as we celebrate Winnie the Pooh.  This program is part of our Dig into Reading Summer Reading Program and is for children up to age 6.  No registration is required.

Puppet People

On Aug. 6, at 1 p.m., join the Puppet People and Dig into Reading to solve the mystery of Book Island in this puppet pirate adventure.  This program is part of our Dig into Reading Summer Reading Program.  No registration is required.  Appropriate for all ages.

Family film

On Aug. 6, at 6:45 p.m., come to the library and enjoy Hiccup a Viking teenager who aspires to hunt dragons, but doesn't exactly fit in with his tribe's longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. His world gets turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view. No registration is necessary and the popcorn is free.

Kundalini Yoga

On Aug. 7 and 21, from 5 to 6:15 p.m., join us for Kundalini Yoga. This program is facilitated by Debra Krol and involves repetitive movements with the breath, building strength, toning the nerves and clearing the adrenal glands.   Wear comfortable clothing and bring 2 blankets or a mat and blanket. A $5 donation is requested. Use the back entrance when entering the building.

Knitting Circle

On Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. the ladies (men are welcome, but we have not seen any yet!) knit and crochet, embroider and quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here, share your own special talents with others, or just craft in the company of friends. Drop in anytime! No registration is required.

Tea party

On Aug. 8, at 1 p.m., the library invites you to the Mother/Daughter American Girl Tea Party. Step back in time as we dig into the world of American Girl, Samantha Parkington.  Bring your dolls (It does not have to be an America Girl Doll!)  and your mom to the library where we'll talk about what it was like to be a girl in 1904.  You'll make a Victorian craft and a calling card to bring to the Best House where we'll have our tea party.  Girls and Moms will meet Mrs. Best, enjoy lemonade and cookies and have a personal tour of the house.  Each girl will go home with a goodie bag. This program is part of our Dig into Reading Summer Reading Program and is open to girls going into grades 2 through 6. Registration is required.

Dinner and a movie

On Aug. 9, at 5:30 p.m., the library is showing The Hobbit rated PG-13. We’ll uncover one of the greatest stories ever written as we watch the movie The Hobbit.  The library will provide pizza and drinks and you bring a dessert to share.  Something Middle Earth related perhaps?  This program is part of our Beneath the Surface Teen Summer Reading Program. For kids going into grades 6 and up. Registration is required.
