Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, July 16, 2014

On Friday, July 18, at 5:30 p.m., join us at the library for a movie and dinner, the family edition. The movie is The LEGO Movie rated PG. We will provide pizza and drinks and you bring a dessert or snack to share. This program is appropriate for all ages and is part of Fizz, Boom, Read. Registration is required.

Role playing games

On Friday, July 19, at 2 p.m., Spark a Reaction’s role playing games  — The Art of Role Playing. It combines fantasy and science fiction, social interaction, collaboration, acting, storytelling, and board gaming into a fun filled couple of hours. No materials are needed, simply bring your imagination and drive to be creative.  Limits of six spots are available.  This is for kids in grades six and up. Registration is required.

Making Marionettes

On Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 22 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., come to the library for Spark a Reaction – “ Making Marionettes with Morgan Kelly”. Spend a fun afternoon learning how to design and build your own marionette puppet. This program is appropriate for kids going into sixth grade and up. Registration is required.

Board games

On Monday, July 21, from 3 to 5 p.m., join us for Fizz, Boom, Read: “Board at the Library”. We'll be playing some new and exciting board games all afternoon. Snack will be provided. This is appropriate for kids going into grades two to six.

Family film

On Monday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m., the library will show The Absent Minded Professor rated G. The popcorn is free.  No registration is required.

Story time

On Tuesday, July 22, at 10:45 a.m., join us for drop in story time. Get ready to move in this interactive story time designed especially for children newborn to age six and their caregivers. We'll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance, and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required.

Mahjong Mania

On Tuesday, July 22, at 1 p.m., men and women are invited to come learn the game of Mahjong.  No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun.  No registration is necessary.

Book discussion

On Tuesday, July 22, at 7 p.m., come to the library and discuss Body Surfing by Anita Shreve. Books are available at the customer service desk.

Computer help

On Wednesday, July 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., help is available with simple tasks on the computer. Make an appointment for semi-private instruction with a computer help specialist. You'll have an hour to ask questions and have hands on instruction. Call now for an appointment at 827-5142.  Registration is required.

Kaleidoscopes

On Wednesday, July 23, at 1 p.m., join us for Fizz, Boom, Read: “Mirror Magic”.  Mirror, mirror on the wall.....learn about the how's and why's of reflection using a variety of kaleidoscopes. Each participant will create a kaleidoscope to take home. This program is presented by the Scotia Glenville Children's Museum.  Appropriate for children going into grades two to five. Registration is required.

LEGOS

On Wednesday, July 24, at 1 p.m., the library will have Fizz, Boom, Read - “LEGOS”. Get ready to use your engineering skills to create a kinetic object, that means something with moving parts. It's up to you how you use your imagination to complete this challenge. This program is appropriate for children going into grades one through five. Registration is required.

Knitting Circle

On Thursday, July 24, at 7 p.m., the friendly ladies of the Knitting Circle meet to knit, crochet, embroider, quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here or share your own special talents with others or just craft in the company of friends. Drop in anytime. No registration is required

Book sale

On Saturday, July 26, from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m., come join us for our annual book sale. We have a great selection of books, fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books.  Also DVD's and audio books.
