Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, March 11, 2015

On Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m., join us at the Middleburgh Public Library for the Reel Talk Film Festival. The film will be a viewer’s choice.

Story time

On Tuesday, March 17, at 10:45 a.m., join us for drop in story time. Get ready to move in this interactive story time designed especially for children up to age five and their caregivers.  We’ll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance, and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. 

Mahjong

On Tuesday, March 17, at 1 p.m., at the library, adults are invited to come learn the game of Mahjong.  No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun. No registration is required.

Book discussion

On Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m., this group will discuss “My Antonia” by Willa Cather.  The book chronicles the life of Ántonia, a Bohemian immigrant woman, as seen through the eyes of Jim, the man unable to forget her. No registration is required.  Books are available at the help desk.

Movie

On Wednesday, March 18, at 1 p.m., join us for the Wednesday Matinee showing of “Rosewater rated PG 13. The popcorn is free.

Kundalini Yoga

On Wednesday, March 18, at 5 p.m., join us for Kundalini Yoga. This program involves repetitive movements with the breath, building strength, toning the nerves, and clearing the adrenal glands. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring two blankets or a mat and blanket. A $5 donation is requested. Please use the back entrance when entering the building.  No registration is required

Beginning Tai Chi

On Thursday, March 19, at 10 a.m., join us for Beginning Tai Chi. Basic Sun style Tai Chi will be taught in a six-week session.  Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. A $5 donation per class is required and registration is required.

Advanced Tai Chi

On Thursday, March 19, at 11 a.m., join us for Advanced Tai Chi for Health & Fitness. Advanced Sun style Tai Chi will be taught in this six-week session.  You must have completed the beginner class to register for this class.  Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing.  A $5 donation per class is required and registration is required. 

Knitting Circle

On Thursday, 19, at 7 p.m., the friendly ladies knit and crochet, embroider and quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here, share your own special talents with others or just craft in the company of friends. Drop in anytime. No registration is required.

Crockpot cookoff

On Saturday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the library will have their Sixth Annual Crock Pot Cook-Off. We are looking for cooks to enter their creations in the categories of chili, desserts, or other. It is free to enter your crock pot in the competition, but you must pre-register at the library or online. All crock pots should be to the library by 10:30 a.m. and should arrive already hot — please bring a serving utensil with you. Prizes will be given in each category and will be drawn at 2 p.m.

 If you just would like to come and eat, sampling of crock pot fare and voting begins at 11a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and children over five. Children under five are free. Beverages will be available for an additional $1 each. Tickets are available at the door. All proceeds benefit the library

Dinner

and a movie

On Friday, March 27, at 5:30 p.m., the library will show the movie “Unbroken” This is about the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete who joined the armed forces during World War II, only to be captured by the Japanese navy after a plane crash in the Pacific.

The library will provide pizza, salad, and drinks and you bring a dessert or snack to share.  Please note that this film is rated PG-13 and is unsuitable for young children.  Please use back entrance.  Registration is required.
