Middleburgh Library Notes for Thursday, February 27, 2014
On Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., Philip Potak, a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, will give a concert, “Play Reading” at the Middleburgh library.
His newest play, Heir Apparent, is a two-character piece that re-visits his running theme of family and how that concept cannot be defined simply, with a white picket fence.
Tickets are available at the door. A $10 donation is suggested. Please use the library’s back entrance.
Dinner and a movie
Pm Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m., Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, will be screened.
The library will provide pizza, salad, and drinks and you bring a dessert to share! Please note that this movie is rated PG-13 and is not suitable for young children. Registration is required.
Grown-up board games
On March 1, from 4 to 10 p.m., local board gamers Mal Martin and Jeremy Strickland will be hosting a board gaming session for adults.
We will be playing new games that promote cooperative play and healthy competition like Kingdom Builder, Forbidden Island, and Carcassonne. Registration is required.
Drop in for stories
On March 4, at 10:45 a.m., get ready to move in this interactive story time designed especially for children up to age 5 and their caregivers.
We’ll read books, sing songs, recite finger plays, dance, and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required.
On March 5, from 5 to 6:15 p.m., Debra Krol will lead a yoga class involving breathing, building strength, toning the nerves, and clearing the adrenal glands.
Wear comfortable clothing and bring two blankets or a mat and blanket. A $5 donation is requested. Use the back entrance when entering the building. No registration is required.
On March 6 at 7 p.m., friendly ladies (men are welcome, but we haven’t seen any yet!) knit and crochet, embroider, quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here or share your own special talents with others — or just craft in the company of friends
Drop in anytime. No registration is required.
On March 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Middleburgh Library is holding its Fifth Annual Crock-Pot Cook-Off and we are looking for cooks to enter their creations in the categories of Chili, Soups, or Other.
It is free to enter your crock-pot in the competition but you must pre-register at the library or online. All crock-pots should be to the library by 10:30 a.m. and should arrive already hot; please bring a serving utensil with you. Prizes will be given in each category and will be drawn at 2 p.m.
If you just would like to come and eat, sampling of crock-pot fare and voting begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and children over 5. Children under 5 are admitted for free. Beverages and desserts will be available for an additional $1 each.
