“The Forgotten Forerunners” is the podcast episode of Emmy-winning journalist Mo Rocca’s “Mobituaries” that will be the subject of Guilderland Public Library’s next “Earbuds and Bookmarks” monthly podcast discussion group, held virtually on Tuesday, April 20, at 5 p.m. The podcast tells the fascinating stories of three remarkable African-American trailblazers — (from left) Elizabeth Jennings Graham, the 1854 Manhattan-based precursor to Rosa Parks; Moses Fleetwood Walker, who became the first Black major league baseball player with the Toledo Blue Stockings in 1884; and Lois Weber, the first American woman to direct a feature-length film in 1914.

Fishing can be relaxing and rewarding, and the catch of the day yields solid nutrition. However, some fish from the Hudson River may contain harmful chemicals.

On Thursday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m., older teens and adults can learn about safe places to fish in the Capital Region, plus tasty food-prep ideas. This Zoom event will be conducted by Karen Roberts Mort from Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Attendees will receive a booklet about wild-caught fish and proper cleaning and filleting techniques, plus recipe ideas. We’ll also provide tackle baggies and fishing guides for registrants to pick up curbside.  Please register on the Events tab of our website.
