Guilderland Library Notes for Wednesday, October 23, 2013

All young Dr. Frankensteins in grades 3 through 6 should drop by the Guilderland Public Library on Friday, Oct. 25, at 6:30 p.m., to build a monstrosity with the library’s Legos!  You can bring your own models to show off, too. As always, library Legos are to share and your creations will be kept separate. Enjoy this free-building time with other tween Lego-maniacs.

DIY teens

Teens who enjoy do-it-yourself projects should come to library’s Creature of the Night String Dolls program on Monday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m.

Create your own version of Thai string dolls at this session. Why pay $10 or more in a novelty shop for a zombie or mummy string doll keychain when you can DIY? Just call ahead at 456-2400, ext. 4 to let us know you’re coming.

History of nursing in New York

Come learn about the rich history of the nursing profession in New York State on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m., when Gertrude Hutchinson – registered nurse, archivist, and librarian – presents Traveling a Path of NYS Nursing History.

Hutchinson will reveal the history and unique records, manuscripts, photographs, and memorabilia that are a part of the Bellevue Alumnae Center for Nursing History Archives. Please register for this program online, in-person, or by phone at 456-2400, ext. 2.  And, don’t forget to visit the companion display to this program in our lobby throughout the month of October!

Scooby Doo matinee marathon

Zoikes! Get a jump on Halloween on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 3 to 5 p.m., with the library’s Scooby Doo Matinee Marathon! Classic episodes will be shown and a Scooby snack will be served. For school-age children and a parent or caregiver.

 Preschool Halloween story time

The evening before Halloween is the ideal time for preschoolers to come in costume to the library and have fun at our Not-So-Scary Halloween story time; the fun begins on Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m., and lasts for an hour.

There will be stories, songs, a short movie, crafts, and even some treats. The high point of the evening will be the costume parade through the library. Can't wait!  Please note: This is a drop-in program and parents are required to stay with their children.

Last chance

You must reserve your seats by Nov. 1 for the bus trip to New York City on Saturday, Dec. 7. The bus leaves the library parking lot precisely at 7:30 a.m., and will drop you off near the New York Public Library (42nd St. and 5th Ave.) about 10:30 a.m. Reserve your seats by calling Erika at the Chamber at 456-6611, or e-mailing egauthier@guilderlandchamber.com. The cost is just $40 per person. (You'd spend way more than that on gas and tolls just getting to the city.)
